Do You Over-Pack And Under-Dress When You Go On Vacation?

Whenever I go on vacation, no matter how remote the location, or how posh the accommodations, there are two things that I always end up doing: I find a boutique in which to buy some new clothes; and (despite the great variety of packed and recently purchased clothes) I end up wearing the same two outfits. If this sounds like you, then listen up!

Most people over-pack and under-dress while they are on vacation. So why not try this little challenge: If you are going away for one week, bring only your two favorite outfits; if you are going away for a long weekend, bring just your most favorite outfit. Believe me, with the clothes already on your back, it will be enough. And if this sounds really impossible to you, then take it from a fellow shopaholic, you’ll make it work!

  1. While this may not apply to the short vacations of which you speak, here is a secret many photographers use when they travel domestically with thousands of dollars of equipment that is too much to carry on with them:

You go to a sporting goods store and find an signal-gun - the kind of gun they use to start track races... on your mark, get ready, set!

Technically, it is a firearm, but unlike a real gun, it can't really get you into trouble. You buy a solid case for it, a case than can lock. Lock it and put it in the check-in baggage that contains your most expensive stuff. At the airport, when at the ticket counter, declare your signal gun and hand the lock key over. TSA and every U.S. airline has a policy where they have to allow you to travel with firearms in your check-in, as long as your origin and destination allow posession of it. As it may be a hazard, your suitcase will not be tossed around and thrown together with the other passengers' baggage. When you get off the plane, a TSA agent will be there to personally hand you back your suitcase, instead of you having to wait with everyone else. No more lost luggage!
